This is our weekly small group time at City Hope Fellowship. This is a way for us to get to know one another and learn together the how and why of starting an intentionally multicultural church. What will it look like for us to pursue being a multiethnic community? Why would we pursue that? What does that have to do with the message of Jesus? All these questions and more will be explored as we gather together to pursue the vision of Revelation 7:9-10:
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:9–10)
So, what do these small groups practically look like? Well, because of our desire to grow as a new worshiping community and the number of young children in our midst we decided on a unique small group structure. We will be all meeting together as one large group on Sunday afternoons from 4:00-5:30. We will have childcare available and then we will all gather together for a short teaching and vision time and then we will break up into our small groups for discussion. Our discussion will be over a book (with the material being covered in the teaching time) called The High Definition Leader: Building Multiethnic Churches in a Multiethnic World by Pastor Derwin Gray.
This is a book and a man that I have learned a great deal from on how to intentionally pursue a multiethnic church and be firmly rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. And Derwin is so passionate about this and generous that he actually sent us a free case of books! We will distribute the books at small group if you don't have one. Please contact me at email@example.com or 765.760.2189 if you have any questions.
